OCTOBER 23, 2022

Who is Prime Society?
Prime Society’s a Phoenix-based music group with J. Reid on bass, Juan on keys and Infinite & Shy on vocals. They perform as a band, hiring a drummer for every show. The group focuses on heavy crowd interaction, bringing big, big energy to every set.
How would you define your sound? What makes you unique?
Neo soul with a nostalgic feel and modern spin. High contrast from stage to studio recordings. Musically, a collective. Based on our upbringing, sort of the middle of Marvin Gay & Kanye West. The key is music that personally connects to our fans’ souls. Phoenix is unique and we’ve been able to build a real fan base here performing our own sound.
Who is Prime Society as a group?
There’s a check & balance and respect for one another. The mindset we have is that we’re working together for a common goal. Bonding’s been essential. We connect in life outside of the music.
Who would you say influences you creatively as artists? How do your influences play a part in your sound?
Gospel, hip-hop & soul with a rocker infusion. All our influences are based on the music that we grew up listening to like Mac Miller, Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Big D, Otis Redding, The Beatles, Ray Charles, Jimmi Hendrix & Chuck Berry.
You’ve performed a lot in places between Phoenix & LA. Give us the highlights from this year.
Our “Good Old Trip” to Nevada, Burning Man for sure, where we played all week doing 12 shows in camp with many musicians & artists. This was a very pivotal experience for us that we’ll tell you more about later. Also, we performed at a home game for the Phoenix Suns during the playoffs.
What compelled you as a band to tackle homelessness in your community and how did you get started in community outreach?
Water is scarce for many, so we did a drive in June and July to give back to the community. We’ve done other community volunteering and outreach in the past. The outreach is natural for us in our upbringings in the church and has been ingrained in our minds as just something we do. Reaching out is important and we see it as an obligation to give back to a community that has given us so much to us.
How did you decide on crowdfunding through Kickstarter to fund your experience at Burning Man? What was the response?
It was amazing seeing fans help make the experience a reality. It felt really good to see that motivation from fans who believe in the band. Super humbling & surreal. Utter support & love.
What was Burning Man like?
Burning Man was a crazy experience. It was very life changing & enlightening. The energy is way different from what any of us had been experienced before. Apocalyptic dust storms happened. The thought of death happened. It was surreal. Performing and pushing through obstacles is important. Our love for performing and doing what we wanna do got us through. Non-stop, taking every opportunity and breaking all expectations. It’s a labor of love.
Tell us about your new album, “The World Is Yours”, which dropped 10.21.22 on all platforms.
The album is a blend of styles with heavy R&B and neo-soul flavors. Our first single, “Paradise”, has streamed over 170k times on Spotify organically. It hit #2 on the indie digital radio charts & made it to #56 globally. Once that happened, Spotify went crazy. “After Hours” was next up. It’s a song Shy wrote and produced. You can find those feels throughout the whole album. It’s pure emotion.
Where can we connect with you to listen to your music, see your show schedule, shop merch, etc.?
Our music’s on all platforms. The best way to connect is definitely Instagram — though, after Burning Man, social media has seemed less important. The best way to connect & buy merch is live at shows in the SXSW area. We’ll be going on tour soon, branching out more and more and playing new places all the time. We’ve already performed in LA a bunch of times and will be back in a big way. Expect more great music and longevity from us.
Special thanks from all of us! Don’t hesitate to tap in. We’re real people.
— J. Reid, Juan Ton, Infinite & Shy
